Guanajuato State police officers were invited by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department to visit Charlotte in June. The delegation was welcomed by CMPD and Mecklenburg Sheriff Office. The week spent in Charlotte was dedicated to learning CMPD’s system. The officers spent time at CMPD’s headquarters, toured the detention center, visited the police and fire department academy, and learned the judicial system in the city’s court. Officers learned CMPD’s community engagement programs, violence and crime prevention programs, SWAT tactics, and K-9 procedures. During ride-alongs officers learned the use of bodycams to help with the resent introduction of these devices in their own department. The delegation attended the Kops and Kids Program engaging the Latino community and spending time with officers from previous programs from around the state. Participants returning to Mexico increased their understanding about CMPD’s systems and procedures, but most importantly learning CMPD’s community engagement and preventive programs looking forward to continue with the exchanges.
