Officers from four different counties (Durham, Mecklenburg, New Hanover and Orange) traveled to Mexico City and Guanajuato State in September 2017. In addition to learning about culture and history the delegation benefited from cross county interaction and working relationships in North Carolina upon their return. Top government officials from the State of Guanajuato welcomed the visiting North Carolina delegation to underscore the importance of binational understanding and exchange of ideas. Officers got to experience an Independence Day celebration in the city where Mexico's independence began- the city of Dolores Hidalgo. Same as the inaugural program, the group also visited and toured a correctional facility, the state’s coordination, command, control, communications, technology and intelligence (C5i) and local rural communities. Participants returned to with increased understanding and knowledge to better engage the community.
